It will determine whether or not the current state entered into the trip sheet is adjacent to the prior state. To perform this check,

  • Navigate to Settings -> IFTA Settings.
  • Check the option "Perform State Adjacency Check"

Choose whether you want to show a warning message and refuse to save the trip sheet or display the error message and allow it to save the trip sheet. You can still enter the state and generate an IFTA report if you want to.
If the "Perform State Adjacency Check option" is turned off, the error message will not appear if the current state is not adjacent to the previous state.
